empowering students to become better writers

Tell us a little about yourself…

My name is Timmy Farrell and I am a junior media and communicationsstudies major with an interest in going into the higher education and student affairs field.

Tell us about how you are involved on campus.

I have been involved with a lot of leadership development programs including the STRiVE student leadership retreat and the Retriever Leadership Institute. I am also the Vice President of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at UMBC.

How and why did you get involved in being a tutor?

I was interested in becoming a writing tutor because I think being able to communicate clearly and effectively is one of the most important skills to have in all aspects of life.

What is your favorite thing about being a tutor?

My favorite thing about being a tutor is being able to have conversation with students that empower them to become better writers.

Why should students utilize the tutoring?

Students should utilize tutoring because getting feedback from others is a very powerful tool.

What advice would you give students about how to prepare for a tutoring session?

Have a sense of what you want to get out of the session and be thinking about what your concerns are. Be prepared to engage in a conversation.

When and where can someone work with you through the Learning Resources Center?

Students can work with me in the Writing Center on Mondays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and one Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
