The purpose of the First-Generation Workgroup is to bring awareness of and build advocates for First-Generation students within the UMBC community. The goals of the workgroup are to:
- Celebrate the achievements of First-Gen Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff
- Bring attention to the presence of First-Gen students and issues impacting them
- Provide support for UMBC First-Gen students, particularly helping to build a supportive community for students
- Catalog, develop and disseminate information on resources for First-Gen students
