4/19 Weekly Digest

Hi Retrievers!
Here are some of the great events happening next week.

LEADERSHOPS: I am, I can. iLead

Date: Monday, April 22nd
Location: The Commons 318

Peer Facilitator: Meghna Chandrasekaran

We talk about how we show up in places, but have you looked at how you show up authentically when working with groups to make change? This session explores just that through interactive games.

Students are highly encouraged to attend.

The Leadershops series consists of workshops that focus on various student centered leadership-related topics facilitated by Campus Life staff and student leaders. This program aims to contribute to the leadership development and ongoing learning of UMBC undergraduate students.

Distress Tolerance Workshop

Date: Tuesday, April 23nd
Location: The Center for Well-Being 217
Time: 3-4:15pm

You may have heard of Retriever Integrated Health's Skills Training in the Application of Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) counseling group, which helps students who struggle with relationship dynamics and emotion regulation.  We know that not everyone can commit to a 6-week group and that the group times don't always work with students' schedules, so we're excited to bring some of the group's skills to folx in a workshop format as well.

This workshop focuses on Distress Tolerance skills.  Students will have the opportunity to learn specific skills to identify when they need to keep moving through distressing situations and how to manage the distress when they do.

This is a non-clinical service provided by Retriever Integrated Health, so no appointments or consultations are required and any UMBC community member can join this session!

If you have any questions or if you need accommodations for a disability, please contact Stephanie Will (swill1@umbc.edu) at least one week prior to the start of the workshop and RIH will arrange for services.

All RIH services are LGBTQIA2S+ friendly and are welcoming to all diverse populations.

Career Month Industry Fair: Humanities & Social Sciences

Date: Wednesday, April 24th
Location: The Commons Main Street
Time: 11am-2pm

At this industry fair, you will have the opportunity to speak with alumni and employer representatives from various fields in the humanities and social sciences. These include areas such as advocacy, social services, education, law, policy, and so much more!

The attending organizations provide internship and employment opportunities, so be sure to bring copies of your resume to share with the employers.

The list of attending organizations is available under the "All Employers" tab. Be sure to continue to check the Handshake event - employers are still registering for this event and more continue to be added!

UMBC's Career Month is an opportunity for all students from freshman to PhD to explore their professional options through workshops, alumni chats, industry fairs, employer site visits, and more.
