Upcoming Programs Hosted by i3b
Transitioning into college is not always easy… especially if you are the first in your family to attend, if you are a part of a marginalized community, or if you regularly find yourself with more questions than answers. Don’t worry; we are here to help!
Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b) has partnered with the Academic Success Center to bring you three sessions that focus on helping you develop the skills and tools you need to experience first-year success! Sessions will occur from 6:00-7:30 p.m in the Mosaic Center (232B Commons Building). Not only will we explore academic success skills and principles, but we will also explore tools for navigating issues of discrimination, bias, and microaggressions within academic spaces and focus on the many ways our identities are assets within the college environment.
9/28: Exploring Success Skills and Tools for First Year & Transitioning Students - This session will explore university resources and key skills for first-year transition success and connect you with upper-class students who share their stories and recommendations for first-year success.
10/5: Knowing What to Expect and How to Navigate Identity-Based Challenges - This session will explore issues of bias, discrimination, and microaggressions and how they show up in university spaces. Students will leave with tools and skills to help them navigate identity-based challenges during the academic transition.
10/12: Bringing YOU into the Classroom - Have you heard of Cultural Wealth? Do you know that your identities are assets in university spaces? This session will explore how you bring Cultural Wealth into the classroom and introduce you to returning students who have learned how to advocate for themselves and be authentic in classroom spaces despite sometimes being the only one who shares their identity.
